HEALTH CHECKUPS

Health Checkups

We provide several nurse-assisted comprehensive health assessments for our patients.


45-49 year old health checkups:

FOR PEOPLE AGED BETWEEN 45 AND 49:

  • This is a free health promotion service covered by Medicare.
  • The aim is to detect and prevent chronic disease and encourage early intervention or screening. Our practice nurse will perform the initial part of the assessment and then you will see your regular doctor to complete the assessment.

Over 75 year old health checkups:

FOR PEOPLE AGED 75 YEARS AND OLDER:

  • This is a free health promotion service covered by Medicare.
  • The aim of the Health Assessment is to help maintain a healthy life at home, and ensure your health needs are being met. It is recommended an assessment is performed annually.
  • Our practice nurses will do the first part of the assessment and then you will see your regular doctor to complete the assessment, and undertake a physical examination.
  • The assessment will cover medical, physical, psychological and social aspects of health and the nurse will also provide you with information about services in the area that are available to you if you need them. There are many services that people in the community can access but are not aware of. These include The Community Shopping and Transport Bus, Meal Services, The Community Home Maintenance Service as well as Respite and Carer assistance, to name a few. This service is directly billed via medicare so you will not have to pay any fee.
  • You will be provided with as assessment document with all the information summarised.

Chronic Disease Management:

  • This is a free health promotion service covered by Medicare.
  • A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer, for example, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions and stroke.
  • The Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Medicare items on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) enable GPs to plan and coordinate the health care of patients with chronic or terminal medical conditions, including patients with these conditions who require multidisciplinary, team-based care from a GP and at least two other health or care providers.
  • Patents who have a chronic medical condition and complex care needs and are being managed by their GP under a GP Management Plan (item 721) and Team Care Arrangements (item 723) are eligible for Medicare rebates for certain allied health services five times per year on referral from their GP.
  • Please make an appointment to see your Doctor to discuss a CDM plan.

Women's Health:

  • All of our doctors are able to provide expert advice on Women’s health.  We always have a female doctor available on weekdays, but not necessarily on Saturdays. If you feel more comfortable with a female doctor, please convey this when making a booking with our staff and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  • All of our doctors are qualified to perform Cervical Screening (previously known as Pap smears), and give contraceptive, menopause and family planning advice.
  • We have several female doctors trained to insert and remove the Implanon contraceptive device.
  • It is recommended that several months before you plan to become pregnant, you see your GP to discuss pre-natal assessment issues such as rubella immunity, folic acid intake and your options for ante-natal care.
