flu VACCINES

As we approach flu season, it is important to make sure you are vaccinated and well-protected from the virus. Immunisation is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your community from the flu and other associated complications like pneumonia.

The Australian Government Department of Health advises that everyone over 6 months of age receive the influenza vaccine every year. This is because the most common strains of the virus that cause influenza change every year and therefore the vaccine also changes to match these different strains.

Seasonal influenza, more commonly referred to as the flu, is a highly contagious respiratory illness that manifests in symptoms like fevers, chills, muscle aches, coughs and congestion. It is especially serious for babies, people over 65 years of age and pregnant women, which is the reason the flu vaccine is provided for free for these groups of people under the National Immunisation Program.  Please speak to the doctor for more information about the eligibility criteria.
